The Lorax

The Lorax is a children's book written by Dr. Seuss. It was published in 1971. It is an environmental film about The Lorax who speaks for the trees when the greedy Once-ler chops them down.

Plot

An unnamed boy wanders to the Lurkum of a mysterious figure, The Once-ler. This enigmatic figure (as his arms are all that are ever seen) tells him how he destroyed the ecosystem of the area by chopping down the Truffula trees with reckless abandon, despite The Lorax's repeated appeals for him to stop as his company grows and more and more Thneeds sell. In the end, The Once-ler gives the unnamed boy the last remaining Truffula seed and tells him that "Unless someone like you cares an awful lot, things are never going to get better; they're not." and that it takes the seed 10 years to sprout, 10 years for the sprout to become a sapling, and 10 years for the sapling to reach maturity. The unnamed boy leaves with the seed.
