— Silas Ramsbottom introducing the AVL to Felonius Gru
|
The Anti-Villain League (abbreviated to AVL) is a top-secret organization dedicated to arrest villains and prominent criminals.
Background[]
Due to its confidentiality, not much is known about AVL aside from its purpose.
One of the bases is in Australia. However, nothing is known of these other facilities.
The agents of the AVL (with the exception of Lucy & Gru) typically dress in black and white and wear matching black sunglasses, similar to stereotypical secret agents.
Plot[]
Despicable Me 2[]
The AVL had been tracking the theft of the Arctic PX-41 laboratory for at least three weeks when Silas Ramsbottom is forced to summon Felonius Gru. Lucy Wilde, one of the agents of the AVL, is dispatched to escort the ex-supervillain to the submarine. Though there is some resistance from the reformed villain, Lucy managed to bring Gru in. Ramsbottom attempted to utilize Gru's skill of identifying villains in order to capture the culprit, although Gru refused to cooperate. Lucy leaves him a contact card for AVL in case of he would change his mind later. After Dr. Nefario's departure, Gru eventually joins the AVL.
The AVL, in order to assist the duo, gave them specialized tools such as a belt buckle that could detect traces of PX-41. They however failed to identify the true perpetrator, El Macho, as the organization does not believe in Gru's theory. Later, when the shop Eagle Hair Club is discovered to be contaminated with PX-41, the owner of the shop, Floyd Eaglesan, is arrested by the AVL. Declaring the case closed, Ramsbottom transferred Lucy to the AVL's Australian branch, though she went AWOL when she realized she loved Gru.
AVL is never seen for the rest of the film, although with the defeat of El Macho, the organization presumably arrested him (and probably his son and pet) and confiscated the PX-41 serum he had.
Despicable Me 3[]
The AVL appears to take on Balthazar Bratt, who steals the Dumont Diamond from a ship. Gru, Lucy, & two of the Minions are sent to stop Bratt, but he gets away, causing Gru and Lucy to get fired. Before Gru and Lucy got fired, Silas Ramsbottom announces his retirement, meaning that Valerie Da Vinci will take his place. However, Gru and Lucy were eventually reinstated back into the organization after Bratt's arrest and recovery of the diamond.
Minions: The Rise of Gru[]
The AVL reappears in this film, trying to stop the Vicious 6 from taking the Zodiac Stone. Their previous base was an airship and Silas Ramsbottom was an agent of the organization before taking over as leader.
